Dance for People with Parkinson's Disease

I lead a monthly dance class with colleague Marianne Jarvi at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Classes are held the third Friday morning of each month, 10-11:30. The class is free and open to anyone over 50 with flexibility, balance and mobility issues.

Watch a Jim Lehrer News Hour program about this work, with David and John from the Mark Morris Dance Group who taught us this methodology.

Read an article about the class published in the Daily Illini in May, 2010.

On the Brain Bop page, download a handout of The Developmental Movement Pattern Sequence that you can do sitting in a chair, as we do in our class. You can also purchase a CD of music to use with The Sequence.

Osher Life Long Learning
Viewing Dance: A Lecture Series

Local community members over 50 can sign up for my lecture series through the Osher Life Long Learning Institute. These lectures give valuable insight into the processes and aesthetics of the choreographers in the UIUC Department of Dance, from BFA candidates through faculty and guest alumni. Each lecture corresponds to one of four departmental concerts presented annually. For info about the OLLI series, contact Brenda.
